Al Aseel Greenacre

A Lebanese Feast in Sydney

Good food, generous portions and a table full of Lebanese favourites — Al Aseel Greenacre is one for the foodie list.

There is something about Lebanese food that makes a meal feel like an occasion. Lots of little dishes, plenty of things to share and a table that somehow gets fuller with every dish that arrives.

Located on Waterloo Road in Greenacre, Al Aseel is the original restaurant in the Al Aseel family. The Greenacre location opened in 2002 as a 100-seat neighbourhood restaurant and has since become the flagship of the group.

What We Ordered

🧀 Haloumi

We started with the Haloumi, caramelised in honey and thyme and served with tomato, Kalamata olive and pistachio dukkah.

The combination of salty haloumi with the sweetness of honey was so good. The pistachio dukkah added a lovely crunch, while the tomato and olives helped balance everything out.

🥟 Kibbeh

Next up was the Kibbeh — four hand-crafted, crisp croquettes of minced meat.

Crispy on the outside and packed with flavour, these were the kind of little bites that disappear from the table very quickly.

🍢 Kafta Mishwe

The Kafta Mishwe was classic skewered kafta served with grilled bread, chilli, fresh biwaz and toum.

The kafta was beautifully grilled and full of flavour, while the toum added that delicious garlicky kick that pairs so well with grilled meat.

🫓 The Trilogy

You can't have a Lebanese feast without dips, and The Trilogy delivered.

It featured hommos beiruti, baba ghanouj and beetroot dip, served with crisp herbed Lebanese bread.

Three dips, three very different flavours — and plenty of excuses to keep reaching for another piece of bread.

🐟 Samkeh Sayadieh

For something a little different, we had the Samkeh Sayadieh — oven-baked Spring Creek barramundi served with sayadieh rice infused with spices, fish stock and pine nuts.

The barramundi was delicate and paired beautifully with the fragrant, spiced rice.

🍤 Creamy Garlic Prawns

Then came the Creamy Garlic Prawns — garlic tiger prawns served in a creamy sauce with jasmine white rice.

Garlic + prawns + creamy sauce is pretty much a combination that speaks for itself.

🍖 Mansaf Lamb

This came with a braised lamb shank, spiced mansaf rice with minced lamb, roasted nuts, mint cucumber laban.

The lamb was wonderfully tender and practically falling apart, while the spiced rice made the dish feel incredibly hearty and comforting.

The roasted nuts added some crunch, and the mint cucumber laban brought a refreshing contrast to the richness of the lamb.

Definitely the kind of dish that makes you realise you've eaten far more than you originally intended — but have absolutely no regrets about it.

☕ Lebanese Coffee

Of course, no Lebanese feast would be complete without Lebanese coffee.

Strong, aromatic and the perfect way to finish a very full meal.

After working our way through all those dishes, a coffee at the end was very much needed — and very much appreciated.
